Scott Gray, CPA, CIA is the owner of Gary B Coleman, CPA on January 4, 2016.
I grew up in a small southeastern town, Moravia - population 700. My graduating class had 38, and that was a big class for Moravia. After graduating, I attended Simpson College and got my BA in Accounting. I landed my first job at the original Peoples Bank on the square in Indianola. I was there for five years before starting at Brenton Bank in Des Moines as an Internal Auditor for three years. From there I was an Internal Auditor with Allied Insurance. I was then hired by one of my Allied “clients”, a subsidiary called Nationwide Advantage Mortgage Company. I was with NAMC for 15 years as the Financial Planning & Analysis Manager and Controller. I’ve been a CPA for 19 years.
I’ve been involved in the community over the years. I coached Parks & Rec sports and AAU Basketball. I helped start and was on the board of two non-profit organizations, IBA and Faithworkz. I was the chair for the missions committee for four years at First United Methodist Church. I was also on the Indianola School Board. I’m currently the Indianola Rotary Club Co-Treasurer.
I am married to Deanna Gray. I have three children, Jordan, Ember, and Danny, and two step children, Connor and Aric Humphrey. The youngest just graduated high school this year, so we are new empty nesters.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing basketball, golfing, biking, reading, and traveling. This year, Deanna and I rode RAGBRAI for the first time.
I was born in Iowa City but have spent most of my life in Indianola. My husband, Chad, and I live in town with our rambunctious boxer, Jagger. We added our first child to our family this past Thanksgiving and are looking forward to all the challenges and adventures that will bring in the future.
I attended Indianola High School where I was member of the softball and basketball teams. I was also a member of the National Honor Society and a board member for the Senior Class Athletic Boosters. I graduated from Indianola High School in 2007. After graduation I attended Simpson College where I completed my BA in Accounting in 2011.
Throughout high school and college I worked at the local Hy-Vee as a member of the kitchen staff from 2005 to 2010. I started working with Gary Coleman, CPA in December of 2010 on a part-time basis until I completed my degree. After graduating from Simpson the following year I was given a full-time position and have been here ever since.
After a busy tax season, I can usually be found playing slow-pitch softball; I even met my husband on the softball field. In my spare time I also enjoy fishing, yard games, board games, cheering on the Hawkeyes, and spending time with family and friends.
It has been a great experience providing accounting and tax services to our clients over the past six years and I am looking forward to continuing to serve our clients in the future.
I was born in Kyrgyzstan, a former Soviet Union republic in Central Asia. I grew up playing basketball and did really well in school and college. I moved to the United States when I was 19 years old to pursue my education. I spent most of my adult life in Seattle, Washington where I went to college and met my wife.
I graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Finance. In Seattle I managed logistics for an international seafood distribution company but my interest has always been in tax and accounting. I like anything that has to do with numbers and math.
About 3 years ago my wife, Marina, and I relocated to Des Moines, Iowa. We live in West Des Moines with our French Bulldog, Marta. I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree in Accounting and preparing to take my CPA exam next summer.
I really enjoy the work that I do and am proud to serve the Indianola community. I am fluent in Russian language. In my spare time I enjoy reading science fiction and watching NFL. I am also a huge fan of boxing.
